I know it's been a long time since I've posted. I actually get a little annoyed when I continue to look at blogs only to see the same post and wonder why people haven't blogged in awhile. I know it's silly ...like my life depends on someone blogging about their life. The funny thing is, between being crazy busy with all the holiday fun of the season and just being way too tired to even be able to complete a real thought, I just couldn't come up with anything. Anything at all.
We were supposed to go to NYC this past weekend with some friends. It was gonna be one big long double date with some friends of ours and no kids. We were going to paint the town red and actually get to see the city in all it's Christmas glory. I was getting pretty excited that this would actually happen. My husband and I made a similar trip with some friends about 5 years ago and it was sooooo much fun. We still talk about how amazing it was today.
Well, I started checking into prices for hotels, shows, bus vs. cars, etc and started to get totally depressed. The prices of everything was going to be so expensive that it started to suck the fun out of going. Our hotel would have cost so much that we wouldn't have had much money to actually play once we got there and no matter how nice a hotel is...you don't just want to sit there! The last time we went to NYC, we had some hotel points and credit card points to redeem so we actually stayed in an amazing hotel right in Times Square for absolutely nothing. This time we didn't have the points so it was going to hurt the wallet a lot more.
After several days of making calls, hours on the internet searching for special deals, we finally came to the conclusion that seeing NYC during the holidays made the price go up enough that we would need to hold off for awhile....maybe we will make it there in January or February.
This past Saturday we decided we would make the most of it here closer to home. We still had babysitters for the day (Thanks Tiff!) so we ended up going to the temple in the morning, followed by a quick lunch. We then joined up again about 5pm and went out to eat and to a movie that night. We topped off the night by going by the craziest Christmas house ever!!! It had sooooo many lights that it almost hurt your eyes. Then it actually had a Santa in the window. Not just any Santa though, this one looked like a live moving one that was a video projected onto some kind of screen. It truly looked like Santa in the window, checking his list, waving to you...it was amazing. But that wasn't even the best part. There is a sign in front of the house that tells you to tune your radio to a certain station and when you do you hear Christmas songs and realize that all those lights are actually blinking in time with the music on the radio!!!! We both said we have to take the kids back to that house!!
We had a really fun day and I really didn't get to see my kids hardly at all that day. When we got ready to go to bed that night, I actually felt like I had been out of town. It was a very weird feeling since I knew I hadn't. I guess it was because I didn't see my kids when I woke up, and I didn't put them down for naps or for bed......it was a vacation at home. It was really nice.
Thanks for my mid Christmas season vacation at home...I needed that!
