In the spirit of my last post I wanted to put out a vote for everyone. I was raised in suburbia and my husband rarely had neighbors very close by. We both have good and bad things to say about both ways to raise kids. Now I want to hear what you all think. Is it better to have a bigger yard to enjoy running around, kicking soccer balls, building tree forts if you might have to give up having close neighbors for your kids and longer commutes to church/school/work......or is it better to forget the privacy and space and room to grow, in order to have everything at your fingertips even when you don't want everything at your fingertips..???
Come on people...tell me how you really feel and what your experiences have been growing up and raising your own kids.
oh and thanks in advance!!

Home Sweet Home
We are searching....ever searching for a home. Maybe in more ways than one, we are always searching for a home that feels right, an area that feels right, and job that feels right...a life that feels right. I read a book recently that talked about how each city has a word that describes it and everyone who lives there. For example, one could argue that the word for Washington D.C. is power, and NYC is ambition, etc It is kind of a fun game to think of different places and come up with a different word to describe the vibe and people there. The book goes on to say that if you live in a place and your lifestyle doesn't agree with "the word" of the city, that you might always feel like you just didn't quite belong.
I grew up in this area for the most part. There are many aspects of it that feels like home to me. It is however a very expensive and fast paced place to raise children. I'm not sure I want that for my kids....I know my wallet doesn't appreciate it.
This is why we are searching...searching for a home. We will probably be moving sometime soon. We have one more month on this contract. We just haven't found a house that feels like home yet. Anyone have a home for us? Come on that isn't too much to ask, right?

Happy Birthday Mama!!

Today is my mother's birthday. Here is a picture of my mom at her last birthday party with all her grandkids. What a fun day!! My mom is amazing!! Maybe you all are thinking about your moms too with Mother's Day around the corner. Isn't it funny how much we love and adore our moms when we are with them but it isn't until we get older and are on our own that we truly appreciate ALL the many, many sacrifices that our moms do for us.
I love you mom!! Happy Birthday! This post is for you!!

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
Those words are so true! Makes you laugh at how fast we wanted to grow up as kids and now we try and make time stand still. I need to be better at looking around and realizing how precious moments with loved ones are.
Recently my sister posted something on her blog. She talked about how much she wished our family lived closer so we could do the "little things" together instead of only the big events that seemed to be packed so tight with activities that we never just get to sit down with someone and say "Hey, how are you really doing?" I live farther away from my family than most. Or at least most of my sisters. If you were to look back at pictures of major events, most of the time I'm the one missing. I missed two of my sisters weddings because of a mission and birth of one of my boys. Life just seems to get in the way all to often.
It's funny though cause life didn't used to be like that. If you look back in time, extended families grew up together and lived near each other. Cousins didn't just see each other every other summer but they lived down the street from each other. When I used to see families that still lived like this, my first reaction was that it was so old fashion. I must be getting old now because now when I see that I'm just jealous. I want my kids to know their relatives not just from pictures but because they are a meaningful part of their life.
We did have a really fun reunion this past summer. I made a picture book about it so my kids could remember all the fun we had. Since that time though three babies have been born and two more will be born this summer.....life keeps changing and I'm missing most of it. So to those of you who live close to your families, hug them extra tight today because you are lucky. For those of us where our families all live far away.......hmm...anyone want to donate to my private jet fund?
